Authorized Cummins distributor S.E.T.I. Jordan Ltd. provided the supply and assembly of the Cummins generator set and a specially designed aluminum container with motorized louvers to meet unique customer requirements at a brand-new wastewater treatment plant.

The near-capacity East Jerash Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jordan recently underwent a complete replacement. The newly constructed plant will serve a greater capacity in Jerash city and is among several water infrastructure projects identified in the kingdom to address water shortage issues and population growth.

When it came to specifying the critical protection power supply for the brand-new facility, the Water Authority of Jordan with contractor Hussein Atieh & Sons Co. – which has successfully executed in the last six decades several projects of varied and complex disciplines throughout the whole country of Jordan – turned to Cummins for its ability to meet unique requirements of project, such as container specs. The complete turnkey solution from Cummins’ distributor in Jordan – from supply, testing and commissioning to aftersales and service capabilities – meant the customer had the power of the Cummins global support network at its side.

A Cummins C2500D5A generator set provides 2,500 kVA of a reliable backup power for the utility. S.E.T.I. Jordan Ltd. provided the supply and assembly of the generator set and a specially designed, anti-corrosion aluminum enclosure with motorized louvers to withstand extreme conditions such as salt deposits.

Special sizing for critical variable frequency drive (VFD) loads was calculated using Cummins GenSize™ tool. GenSize is Cummins' sizing software that allows project managers to easily determine the right Cummins generator set for the application by entering some basic project parameters and load information. The largest motors included in the total load are eight 200 hp blower motors powered by variable frequency drives. Other VFD loads include lighting, UPS loads, process equipment motors and other motors up to 15 hp.

When it came to delivering the power system to its final destination, this presented a challenge due to height restrictions on local roads. With that, Cummins distributor S.E.T.I. Jordan worked with the consultant to install the muffler outside the container to reduce the height, dismantle it during transportation and reinstall the muffler inside the container on site.

This is just the latest in a portfolio of Cummins power system installations at water and wastewater treatment plants managed by the Water Authority of Jordan – a business partnership of 25 years and counting.

A good partner can provide a generator set to a customer. A great partner understands the exact needs of the customer and provides the solution to meet those exact needs, along with 24/7 support.

When Cummins authorized distributor Orient Energy Systems (OES) was approached by a new customer, Ahmad Jamal Textile Mills, the customer came with a requirement of 50 kVA for their home’s power needs and 200 kVA for their manufacturing unit. After meeting with the customer, OES brought in their in-house expert to evaluate the load. The application and project engineer determined that the load in fact required 100 kVA of power for the house and 160 kVA for the manufacturing operations.

OES supplied and installed 1 x Cummins C110D5 generator set and 1 x Cummins C175D5B generator set at the Ahmad Jamal Textile Mills owner’s home and business in Faisalabad, Pakistan, providing prime power to keep the business and household operating at all times. A custom-built enclosure from OES fulfilled noise level requirements of 80-85 dB(A).

On-time delivery was a key requirement of the customer, and this was met by OES and Cummins with timely delivery at the site as per the committed time line. The customer was afforded extra value and peace of mind through Cummins extended warranty program.

“Backup power is considered the backbone of any business globally,” said Haider Khan, Sales Executive with OES. “Efficient and up-to-date technologies in power generation will be the cause of satisfaction for the customer, and Cummins is doing some great R&D in this field. Strong customer service and understanding the power needs of the customer led us to a successful project with Ahmad Jamal.”

An American hero protects his home and family with the help of Cummins

Barron "Buzz" Blizzard started from humble beginnings, growing up in West Virginia to eventually become an American hero. At the age of 17 and fresh off of graduating high school, Blizzard enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Nearly two decades and three tours of duty later, Blizzard retired from the Army as a Colonel. Today, friends and family affectionately refer to the four-time Purple Heart Award recipient as "Colonel Buzz."

Now living in Virginia, Blizzard and his wife experience severe weather almost year-round. In recent years, that includes snow storms in the winter months and tropical storms and hurricanes in the late summer.

"Over the last three years, weather events have been more intense, and we have experienced several power outages ranging from two days to eight days as a result," Blizzard said. "It is very important for me to take care of my wife and keep our home heated during power outages."

Tired of frequent power outages, the couple recently decided to invest in a home generator.

"I just didn’t want to go through the pain of losing power again and again every year. This is not going to get any better, so I think getting a home generator is the right thing to do."

When evaluating different home generator brands to find the right solution capable of effectively powering his home’s needs, Blizzard consulted with a friend who happens to be an electrician, and received the recommendation to look at Cummins.

"I knew Cummins since my childhood, starting with my dad’s tractor and its Cummins engine.” Blizzard said. "Later, during my military career, I again had experiences with Cummins products. Despite my experiences with Cummins on the agricultural and military side, I never knew Cummins had home generators."

Blizzard ultimately decided to get a Cummins QuietConnect home generator – given the product’s technical capabilities and his previous experiences with the brand. Following the generator’s installation, he raved about the Cummins dealer that assisted him throughout the purchasing process.

"The team was fabulous. They knew their jobs, were exceptionally professional and pleasant. They never hesitated to answer my questions."

If you live in an area susceptible to power outages, whether grid or weather weather related, consider investing a home standby generator to keep you Always On. Visit homegenerators.cummins.com to get tips for preparing for and staying safe during severe weather, including more on the importance of having a plan for backup power.
